The "Cupid’s Helper" Soft Sugar Cookies

Yields: 24-30 hearts | Prep time: 20 mins | Bake time: 8-10 mins




I. The "Dough-in-Progress" Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (but not melted!)

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract (plus ½ tsp almond extract for that "bakery" scent)

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for the "flour dust" effect)

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt





II. The "Messy-Chic" Toppings

  • Icing: Store-bought or homemade buttercream tinted in "smudged" reds and pinks.

  • The "Chaos" Kit: Gold and silver sprinkles, pink sanding sugar, and edible glitter.





III. Instructions (The Fun Part)

  1. Prep the Kitchen: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Don't worry about clearing the counters—half the fun is the crowded workspace!

  2. Cream the Butter: In a large bowl (or your splattered stand mixer), cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the egg and extracts.

  3. The Flour Toss: Sift in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms. If it's a little sticky, add a handful of flour—and feel free to let some "accidentally" catch the light in the air!

  1. Roll & Cut: On a well-floured surface, roll the dough to about 6mm (1/4 inch) thickness. Use your heart and Cupid-shaped cutters.

    • Note: If they aren't perfect, that's better. "Real" is the goal here.

  2. Bake: Place on a parchment-lined sheet for 8-10 minutes. They should be pale and soft; do not let the edges brown!


  1. The Decoration Riot: Once cool, grab those icing bags. Use the reds and pinks. Some can be neatly piped, others "smudged" with your wooden spoon. Scatter the gold and silver sprinkles generously let

    them fall onto the counter and the floor just like in the photo.



IV. The Final Touch

These cookies are best enjoyed while sitting on the kitchen floor amidst the sprinkle-covered tile.
